The Miami Film Festival, organized by Miami Dade College, will honor acclaimed actress Melanie Lynskey with the Precious Gem Award during its 2025 edition, scheduled from April 3 to 13. Lynskey will receive the award on April 12, followed by a conversation about her illustrious career. The Precious Gem Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to cinema, with past recipients including notable figures like Pedro Almodóvar, Penélope Cruz, and Rita Moreno.
Lauren Cohen, the festival’s programming director, expressed her excitement about honoring Lynskey, stating, “Her nuanced and captivating portrayal of Shauna in ‘Yellowjackets’ elevates the show’s stakes to an entirely new level. We are thrilled to celebrate Melanie Lynskey’s remarkable career in Miami this year.”
Lynskey, who debuted in Peter Jackson’s “Heavenly Creatures” in 1994, currently stars as Shauna in “Yellowjackets,” earning her two Emmy nominations and a Critics’ Choice Award. Her extensive filmography includes roles in “Don’t Look Up,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “The Informant,” “Up in the Air,” “Candy,” and “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.” Upcoming, she will lead the dramatic thriller “Pike River,” based on the 2010 Pike River Mine tragedy in New Zealand.
The 2025 Miami Film Festival will showcase over 198 films from more than 45 countries, offering a diverse selection of narratives, documentaries, and short films across various genres.
