Writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s production company, The Film Compartment, has joined forces with Sean Penn’s Projected Picture Works for the upcoming drama The Gun on Second Street. Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films will co-produce the film alongside Batra. Executive producers include Rikin Shah, U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell, and Projected Picture Works partners Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth. Production is slated to begin in early June.
The Gun on Second Street explores the gun violence crisis in the United States through a poignant allegory. The story follows two best friends and Pittsburgh police officers, TJ Meadows III and Kevin Cooper.
Their routine call to a domestic dispute on Second Street takes a tragic turn when Officer Meadows accidentally kills his partner, Cooper. Stricken by trauma, Meadows leaves the police force. Years later, he returns to Pittsburgh and falls in love with Cooper’s widow, Kacie, as they both confront their painful past.
“We’re excited to be a part of The Gun on Second Street,” said Projected Picture Works’ Penn, Palmer, and Wildermuth in a joint statement. “We are drawn to grounded stories that explore the complexities of human lives, and Rohit’s screenplay does just that. It touches on universal themes of trauma and redemption. As a director, Rohit has big plans to bring this story to life visually, and we look forward to joining him on this journey.”
Batra expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “I am thrilled to have the highly experienced team at Projected Picture Works join us in bringing The Gun on Second Street to the screen. Their commitment to authentic, character-driven storytelling aligns perfectly with the film’s vision. I couldn’t ask for better partners to executive produce and help bring this impactful story to life for audiences seeking powerful cinematic experiences.”
