Jonah Platt, son of Snow White producer Marc Platt, has criticized star Rachel Zegler for her personal political views, claiming they contributed to the film’s poor box office performance.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Platt accused Zegler of “narcissism” for mixing her politics with the movie’s promotion. He said his father, who is responsible for the high-budget Disney remake, had to fly across the country to reprimand the 20-year-old actress for a social media post reading “and always remember, free Palestine,” after she was denied permission to use the song.
Jonah Platt added, “My dad had to leave his family to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into promoting the movie she signed a multi-million dollar contract for.” He also expressed that Zegler’s actions hurt the film’s box office, stating, “Free speech does not mean you can say whatever you want in your private employment without consequences.”
Platt went further, criticizing Zegler’s behavior as “narcissism,” noting that it impacted not just the film’s success but also the livelihoods of the crew and workers depending on its success.
According to a report by Variety, the meeting over Zegler’s controversial posts, including a “Fuck Donald Trump” comment, led Disney to hire a social media professional to vet her posts.
