Amazon MGM’s A Working Man led the box office on Friday, earning $5.6 million from 3,262 theaters. The film, starring Jason Statham, is projected to gross $15.6 million over the weekend. While its debut is a bit behind The Beekeeper’s $16 million opening in January, it’s still a solid start. Audience reception has been mixed, with a “B” grade from CinemaScore, suggesting potential challenges in sustaining momentum.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Snow White earned $3.7 million on Friday and is expected to finish the weekend with over $14 million, a steep 65% drop from its opening. The film is struggling to meet box-office expectations and may not surpass the domestic earnings of 2019’s Dumbo.
In other releases, The Chosen: Last Supper, the latest season from 5&2 Studios, opened with $5 million on Friday, on track to beat its previous best of $7.2 million. This will be the last season for Fathom Entertainment, as Amazon will handle the final installments.
Universal’s The Woman in the Yard, a horror film from Blumhouse, earned $3.6 million, receiving negative reviews and a “C-” grade from CinemaScore. Meanwhile, A24’s Death of a Unicorn earned $2.2 million, but failed to impress critics and audiences.
Finally, Gkids’ 4K restoration of Princess Mononoke is projected to earn $3.8 million, a strong showing for the 1997 classic.
