Mark Zuckerberg is now the proud owner of the t-shirt worn by Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network.
In a recent appearance on The Colin & Samir Show, Zuckerberg was spotted wearing an Ardsley High School t-shirt, a garment that caught the attention of host Samir Chaudry. Chaudry quickly recognized the shirt from the 2010 film, in which Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but you are wearing a shirt right now that Jesse Eisenberg wears in The Social Network when Andrew Garfield’s Eduardo comes to the house in Palo Alto,” Chaudry remarked.
Zuckerberg confirmed, saying, “Yeah, that’s true. One of my friends saw this online in an auction and was like, ‘You have to get this.’ So I was like, ‘Alright, yeah, sure, let’s get it.’”
Zuckerberg clarified that the shirt wasn’t a replica but the original one worn by Eisenberg in the film. “Yeah, this is his shirt. Well, it’s my shirt now. But it was his shirt,” he added.
The shirt, sold through PropstoreAuctions, was valued between $2,000 and $4,000. The winning bid for the iconic piece of film memorabilia was $4,095.
While Zuckerberg seemed happy with his new purchase, Eisenberg has previously expressed his discomfort with being associated with the Facebook founder. In a recent interview, he stated, “It’s not like I played a great golfer or something and now people think I’m a great golfer. It’s like this guy that’s doing things that are problematic — taking away fact-checking and safety concerns, making people who are already threatened in this world more threatened.”
