A United States judge has ruled that the trial for Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armourer of the film “Rust,” will be held in the coming year. The trial, which involves charges of involuntary manslaughter alongside actor Alec Baldwin, is scheduled to commence on February 21st.
The legal proceedings in the case of Hannah Gutierrez Reed are anticipated to extend for a duration of two weeks. These charges stem from the tragic and fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.
Notably, the charges against Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin were formally dismissed by New Mexico prosecutors in April, though they emphasized that this action did not absolve Mr. Baldwin of potential criminal responsibility.
Recent developments have brought fresh scrutiny to Baldwin’s recounting of the incident, with the public release of a weapons report that raises questions about his version of events. While the possibility of refiling charges against the actor remains, prosecutors have yet to confirm whether they intend to do so.
In a separate legal context, Baldwin is poised to address a civil lawsuit initiated by members of the crew of the “Rust” film. A motions hearing on Wednesday will see Baldwin seeking the dismissal of this lawsuit. The First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe will deliberate on a motion put forth by both Baldwin and El Dorado Pictures for the lawsuit’s dismissal. Furthermore, the court will consider another motion from the actor, requesting a stay on the civil proceedings pending the resolution of the ongoing criminal case.
The forthcoming trial and associated legal actions continue to draw attention as the aftermath of the tragic incident continues to unfold.
