Lionsgate unveiled a new logo for Hunger Games prequel Sunrise on the Reaping at CinemaCon on Tuesday, though no major details were shared. The studio confirmed that filming will begin in July.
The teaser shown at the event featured flames engulfing the mockingjay symbol, transforming into a snake, as Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch Abernathy delivers the line: “I think these games are going to be different.”
Billy Ray, who co-wrote the original Hunger Games film, will write the screenplay, and Francis Lawrence, director of the series since Catching Fire, returns to direct. The film will be released on Nov. 20, 2026.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ latest novel, Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 25 years before the original series. It focuses on the Second Quarter Quell, when Haymitch enters the arena. Collins published the novel in March 2025.
The recent prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, grossed $348 million globally in 2023. The Hunger Games franchise has earned over $3.3 billion worldwide.
