Morgan Wallen is selling hats and t-shirts featuring the viral quote “Get Me to God’s Country” on his official website. The phrase became widely associated with the country singer following his controversial walk-off during the March 29 episode of Saturday Night Live, where he was the musical guest, and Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison hosted.
Wallen left the stage abruptly after his performance, just before the host and musical guest traditionally stay to hug the cast. The walk-off sparked speculation on social media about potential tension between Wallen and SNL. After the show, Wallen posted a photo of a private jet on Instagram with the caption, “Get me to God’s country,” fueling rumors of dissatisfaction with the show.
However, sources close to Wallen later told Variety that there was no tension between the singer and SNL and that Wallen had a good time. They emphasized that the exit and Instagram post were not intended as slights. It was also reported that Wallen had declined an invitation to appear in a pre-taped sketch, with Joe Jonas stepping in instead.
A few days after the incident, SNL cast member Kenan Thompson commented on the walk-off, saying it “felt abrupt” and left him wondering if Wallen was upset with the show. He joked, “I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something,” and added that such a departure was unusual, as cast members typically exchange high-fives after the show.
Thompson also questioned Wallen’s Instagram post, suggesting it implied that SNL was not in “God’s country.” He remarked, “That’s not necessarily my favorite. But whatever. Moving on, we got a new show. We got Jack Black this week.”
