The upcoming film Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale has unveiled a new trailer at CinemaCon, with the tagline, “It’s time to say goodbye.” This marks the end of a beloved saga that began in 2010.
The trailer, shown during Universal’s presentation to theater owners and executives, offers a glimpse of the drama that made the series famous. Set in 1930, it highlights the final chapter of the Grantham family and their iconic estate. Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) is seen enjoying London’s high society, while Lord and Lady Grantham (Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern) stroll through the estate, hinting at a poignant farewell. The loyal servants are also featured, raising a glass in tribute to their years of service.
The film serves as the conclusion to a story that started as an ITV series before airing on PBS in the U.S. Over 15 years, Downton Abbey evolved through six seasons, covering historical events and shifting societal values, with three films following.
Simon Curtis, director of A New Era (2022), returns to direct, with Julian Fellowes, the series creator, writing the script. The film brings back familiar cast members like Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt, and Phyllis Logan, while also introducing new faces such as Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan. Paul Giamatti and Dominic West reprise their roles from previous installments.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is set for release on September 13, 2025.
