Jacob Elordi was planning to take a break from acting, but a message from director Emerald Fennell brought him back to the screen. Elordi recently shared with IndieWire that he was ready to step away until Fennell reached out to him about starring in her upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 romance novel.
“I was going to take a break for a while, and then Emerald just very simply texted me, and you can’t run from that text,” Elordi said.
The actor, who plays Heathcliff, praised his co-star Margot Robbie, who portrays Catherine Earnshaw. “She’s incredible in the film, she’s a livewire,” Elordi added. “I’m so, so excited for people to see it. She’s a beautiful actor and she gave so, so much.”
Fennell is writing and producing the film, alongside MRC and Robbie’s LuckyChap Productions. Wuthering Heights marks their third collaboration, following Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023).
In a January interview, Robbie commended Fennell’s filmmaking talent. “She immerses you into a world so quickly,” Robbie said. “She gets you into it so fast — you’re just immediately like, ‘I’m in this world.’” She added that Fennell taps into the most provocative parts of the story, making it a conversation piece long after the credits roll.
