Pedro Pascal has publicly criticized J.K. Rowling, labeling her a “heinous loser” after she celebrated a recent U.K. Supreme Court ruling that excludes transgender women from the legal definition of “woman” under the Equality Act. Rowling, a vocal critic of transgender rights, expressed her approval of the decision on social media, prompting backlash from various public figures, including Pascal.
In response, Pascal, whose sister Lux is a transgender woman, condemned Rowling’s stance as “awful disgusting SH–” and “heinous LOSER behavior” in an Instagram comment. He also endorsed a call by activist Tariq Ra’ouf to boycott all Harry Potter-related content. Pascal has consistently advocated for LGBTQ+ rights and demonstrated his support by wearing a “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt at the London premiere of Marvel’s Thunderbolts. The shirt, designed by Conner Ives, has raised over $250,000 for Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit organization supporting transgender individuals .
Other celebrities, including Nicola Coughlan and Bowen Yang, have also rebuked Rowling’s views. Coughlan initiated a fundraiser for the trans charity Not a Phase, while Yang issued a strong personal statement on social media. Several original Harry Potter stars, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, have previously expressed support for the transgender community, distancing themselves from Rowling’s controversial positions .
The controversy continues to fuel debates over transgender rights and the influence of public figures in shaping societal attitudes.
