Christian Petzold’s latest film, Miroirs No. 3, has been selected for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des Cinéastes). The film is set to have its world premiere on May 17, 2025. This marks Petzold’s fourth collaboration with actress Paula Beer, following their work on Transit (2018), Undine (2020), and Afire (2023).
The film stars Paula Beer as Laura, an aspiring pianist whose life is upended after a car accident that claims her boyfriend’s life. She finds refuge with a family that witnessed the crash, but soon discovers that their motivations may not be as altruistic as they appear. The cast also includes Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt, and Enno Trebs.
Miroirs No. 3 is produced by Schramm Film Koerner Weber Kaiser in co-production with ZDF and ARTE. The film is funded by Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM), Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF), and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB). The Match Factory is handling worldwide sales, while Metrograph Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights.
The film’s title refers to Maurice Ravel’s piano suite Miroirs, reflecting Petzold’s continued exploration of themes such as memory, identity, and the complexities of human relationships.
