Mike Peters, lead singer of the Welsh rock band The Alarm, has died at 66 after a long battle with cancer. Peters was known for his powerful music, including hits like “The Stand” and “Sixty Eight Guns,” and his collaborations with U2, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen.
Diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1995 and later chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Peters continued to tour and make music through multiple rounds of treatment. His resilience and optimism made him an advocate for cancer patients. Along with his wife, he co-founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation, which held bone marrow donor drives at concerts and organized awareness treks.
Peters’ cancer battle was documented in While We Still Have Time, a BBC film. His health worsened in 2023, forcing the cancellation of a U.S. tour, and he passed away earlier this week.
Peters once said, “Stay alive and appreciate every second you’ve got,” leaving behind a legacy of strength, hope, and music.
