Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is gearing up for an electrifying 2023-24 season, boasting a repertoire of nearly two dozen premieres that span Broadway sensations, musical legends, and comedy virtuosos. The upcoming season promises a welcome return to normalcy post-pandemic, according to Van Wezel’s Executive Director, Mary Bensel.
Encompassing an impressive array of offerings, the season’s centerpiece will be a two-week engagement of the groundbreaking musical “Hamilton.” This highly anticipated run is set to captivate audiences, along with the local debuts of renowned acts such as the Gipsy Kings and Nick Carter.
Mary Bensel’s enthusiasm for the upcoming shows is palpable, as she radiates excitement similar to that of a child on Christmas morning. However, her fervor is particularly pronounced this season due to the diverse and captivating lineup that caters to a wide spectrum of the community.
The roster of luminaries scheduled to grace the stage includes Terry Fator, Sebastian Maniscalco, William Shatner, Barry Bostwick, Paul Anka, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Kristin Chenoweth. The esteemed Kristin Chenoweth is poised to be the headliner for the annual Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation Inspiration Gala.
Earlier in the year, the hall revealed its Broadway, dance, and classical programs, generating fervor over “Hamilton” and other Broadway hits like “Hadestown,” “Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations,” and “Jagged Little Pill.” The Broadway series subscriptions have been available for purchase for months, whereas eager patrons awaiting single tickets for “Hamilton” will need to exercise a touch more patience. Bensel clarified that “the producers determine the on-sale date,” with expectations pointing towards a release no earlier than November.
However, anticipation can soon transform into action, as ticket sales for the majority of the season’s offerings commence at 10 a.m. on September 9. In an exclusive opportunity, current subscribers and e-club members can enjoy a pre-sale window on September 7-8, securing their seats for the season’s unforgettable performances.
