Travis Scott’s most recent musical venture, the album titled ‘Utopia,’ has notched an impressive accomplishment by holding the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 chart for an entire month, as reported by Billboard.
The album, marking La Flame’s fourth studio effort, secured the top spot for the fourth consecutive week. The feat was achieved with a tally of 161,000 equivalent album units sold within the United States during the previous week. This figure represents a 13 percent decline from the sales of the week before.
‘Utopia’ has now officially exceeded the record set by ‘Astroworld,’ establishing Travis Scott as the artist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s cumulative 161,000 equivalent album units can be broken down into 92,000 units from traditional album sales and 69,000 units from SEA (streaming equivalent album) measurements.
The album’s successful performance was further propelled by a promotional incentive featured on Travis Scott’s official website. This promotion offered a discounted price of $5 for the vinyl version of ‘Utopia,’ which typically retails at $50. This initiative extended for two consecutive weeks. Impressively, out of the 92,000 album copies sold, a substantial 89,000 were attributed to vinyl sales.
Travis Scott has also achieved a notable distinction with ‘Utopia.’ The album has become the first rap album in five years to maintain the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart for its initial four weeks. The last album to achieve a similar feat was Drake’s ‘Scorpion,’ which secured five consecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2018. Additionally, in 2021, Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ managed to attain five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1, setting yet another record for the genre.
In conjunction with the release of ‘Utopia,’ Travis Scott unveiled a 75-minute film titled ‘Circus Maximus.’ This cinematic creation encompasses not only music from the album but also visual contributions from esteemed directors such as Harmony Korine, Nicolas Winding Refn, Gaspar Noe, and Kahlil Joseph. These directors each helmed music videos for individual tracks like “Hyaena,” “Sirens,” “Modern Jam,” and “Delresto (Echoes),” the latter featuring Beyoncé. These videos were presented both individually and collectively as part of the full-length film release.
