XG, the internationally acclaimed girl group hailing from Korea, has revealed their musical influences, citing Beyoncé and Rihanna as significant inspirations in their creative journey.
During a recent interview with Apple Music, the seven-member ensemble delved into their music style and their highly anticipated debut EP titled ‘New DNA’. Vocalist Chisa highlighted their unique blend of R&B and Hip-hop, while also infusing their distinctive XG flavor into their compositions.
Chisa mentioned, “R&B and Hip-hop are genres that have really influenced us, so… American music has really impacted us,” she said, before going on to name some of their favourite artists. “Especially Beyoncé, Rihanna, H.E.R and SZA, I’ve been really inspired by American artists.”
During the interview, XG also provided insights into what listeners can anticipate from their EP ‘New DNA’. Rapper Cocona mentioned, “They’re all different genres, so I think you’ll enjoy them to the fullest. Not only the songs, but also the music videos have a lot of different concepts.”
She went on to elaborate on the themes of their pre-release songs, ‘GRL GVNG’, ‘TGIF’, and ‘New Dance’, which respectively explore arrival, evolution, and exploration. Cocona emphasized the interconnected storylines of these tracks, offering a glimpse into the cohesive XG universe.
‘New DNA’, the much-anticipated project, is set for release on September 27. Announced last month, the EP’s six tracks are described as boldly representing the declaration of being a “new species” free from conventions and limitations.
This forthcoming release arrives approximately eight months after the group’s previous comeback, marked by the dual singles ‘Shooting Star’ and ‘Left Right’ in January. These tracks were later remixed with contributions from artists like Rico Nasty and GOT7’s Jackson Wang and Ciara.
