Blumhouse Productions, renowned for its mastery of the horror genre, made its indelible mark in 2009 with the release of “Paranormal Activity.” This low-budget found footage film achieved remarkable box office success, primarily due to its spine-tingling, slow-burning suspense. Since then, this production company, spearheaded by producer Jason Blum, has become synonymous with the realm of fear, notably crafting iconic horror franchises such as “Insidious” and “The Purge” from the ground up.
Given this illustrious history, it comes as no surprise that Blumhouse enjoys a longstanding association with Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Studios’ annual haunted maze extravaganza. This partnership began in 2013 with the creation of an “Insidious” maze at Universal Studios Hollywood.
This year, enthusiasts can anticipate three spine-chilling Blumhouse experiences split between Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando. Both locations feature a maze dedicated to the forthcoming “Exorcist: Believer.” Universal Studios Hollywood adds to the fright fest with a watery spectacle titled “The Purge: Dangerous Waters,” inspired by “The Purge,” and an exhibition complete with an unexpected dance performance, aptly named “Blumhouse: Behind the Screams.” This immersive experience showcases props from Blumhouse’s filmography, including “M3GAN,” “Happy Death Day,” “The Invisible Man,” and the eagerly awaited “Five Nights at Freddy’s.”
In an exclusive conversation with Yahoo Entertainment, Jason Blum shared, “We give [John Murdy, the creative director of Halloween Horror Nights] and his team access to all of the movies and TV shows that we’re doing very, very early. We’ve had such a long, successful collaboration with John and his team, and we have more events there this year than we’ve ever had before, which I’m happy about. When you make movies and shows, you don’t really get a chance to interact with the fans in the way that you do with live events. It’s still so fun to watch people experience our different stories in this way.”
As Blumhouse continues to blur the line between reel and reality, fans of the macabre can eagerly anticipate a spine-tingling encounter with their favorite horror tales brought to life at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights.
