The Twin Cities music scene has not slowed down since the end of summer. Local musicians We Are the Willows, The Dalmatian Club, Colin Bracewell and Labrador Wild are all releasing music this autumn.
We Are the Willows “We’re Livin'” ft. Orchid Eaton.
We Are The Willows frontman Peter Miller has described the sound of the band’s new song “We’re Livin'” as “ethereal”. The song is about coming to terms with the knowledge of the climate crisis while trying to enjoy life.
Miller has been touring the United States. He describes touring as “a very specific kind of human experience” and that many of his favourite memories as a musician come from being on the road.
Most of Miller’s song inspirations come from “thinking a little too much” about life, which he sees as both negative and positive. But, as he quotes Socrates, “an unexamined life is not worth living”.
Listeners can expect We Are The Willows’ latest song “We’re Livin'” later this autumn.
The Dalmatian Club released “Out of Hand” on 16th September.
While The Dalmatian Club identify more with the indie rock genre, the band feel that their new song “Out of Hand” fits better into the indie pop genre as it has a softer sound than their other music.
The song is about trying to figure out who you are and how to navigate life without being reckless, with parts of the song alluding to drug abuse. However, The Dalmatian Club want their audience to interpret the song as they wish.
The band consists of Zac Fogarty and Kyle Siemon (guitars), Tony O’Keefe (drums), Griffin Ruud (lead vocals and bass) and Maisie Sweeney (keys). This particular line-up of musicians is relatively new, as they have only been together for about two months.
While this group has not been performing for a long time, they have been busy in the last month playing shows at the Green Room in Minneapolis and the Como Backdoor.
They also have a song called “Stay for Awhile” coming out on the 29th of September, along with several shows in the next few months. On the 14th of October The Dalmatian Club will be back at the Green Room.
Colin Bracewell will release “Julia” on 3 November.
Colin Bracewell has been playing his new song “Julia” at various shows over the past few months, but has yet to officially release the song on any platforms. Bracewell says the song is a hybrid of R&B and pop music that revolves around the emotions and life of being single while in college.
Bracewell is a student at the University of Minnesota and is currently taking a class on Prince, which makes the fact that he will be opening for the band Guytano at First Avenue on the 3rd of November even more special to him. Bracewell will be performing at a benefit for The Garage on 21 October, which is open to all ages. “Julia” is due for release on Friday 3 November.
Labrador Wild: ‘Lonely Eyes’ – November
“Lonely Eyes” will be Labrador Wild’s first EP and will consist of five songs from their early days as a band when they were still trying to find their sound. Labrador Wild were reluctant to reveal which songs would be on the EP, preferring to keep it a surprise. However, they did say that there is a wide range of music on this EP.
The band started on Craigslist and went through members until the current group stuck. However, the dynamic of the group makes it seem as if they have grown up together.
While the band says that their music has always been a bit of a melting pot of different styles and genres, Labrador Wild feel that their music fits best in the alternative genre.
Labrador Wild will be at Acadia on 28 October for a Halloween show with Twin Citizen and other bands.
