Taylor Swift’s concert film “Eras Tour” is breaking records even before it hits theatres.
With one week to go before it hits the big screen, the film has surpassed $100 million in worldwide ticket sales, according to official distributor AMC Theatres. These sales include all showtimes, locations and circuits playing the “Eras Tour” around the world, not just AMC locations. Tickets are still on sale at Fandango.com.
Swift’s concert film, which captures her record-breaking stadium tour, opens in 8,500 theatres in 100 countries on October 13 – coinciding with the pop star’s lucky number.
With such momentum, it’s set to be one of the biggest debuts of the year. Industry experts believe “Eras Tour” could top $100 million in North America alone on opening weekend (the current advance ticket sales figure includes international box office), which would be unprecedented business for a concert film.
Only five films in 2023 – “Barbie” ($162 million), “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($146 million), “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($120 million), “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($118 million) and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” ($106 million) – all earned at least $100 million in their domestic debuts.
Swift’s Eras Tour has shattered expectations since tickets went on sale. It set a single-day ticket sales record for AMC Theatres with $26 million in North America, surpassing the previous benchmark set by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($16.9 million). According to AMC, advance ticket sales are particularly strong for premium large-screen formats such as Imax and Dolby Cinema.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will play at least four showtimes per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at every AMC theatre location in the United States. The theatre chain promises that it will “continue to take steps to reach agreements with additional exhibitors around the world to play this spectacular Taylor Swift tour-de-force”.
