SZA postponed the Toronto date of her SOS tour just hours before she was due to take the stage on Wednesday night, explaining that illness had gotten in the way.
The singer took to Instagram to post a video of herself on stage during soundcheck at the Scotiabank Arena, apologising to her fans and explaining that despite taking a steroid to reduce inflammation in her body, she couldn’t make it through.
“Hey guys, I’m here at the arena,” she said in the video. “I was just trying to do a sound check, I sound terrible. I just want to give you guys 100 per cent and that’s what you deserve and I’m not going to give you less than that. I promise you I will come back to Toronto and make it up to you, I’m so sorry. I tried so hard, I’m on as much dexamethasone as you can take and I love you and I promise you I’ll be back. I tried, I came, I did the hair and make-up and everything. I love you and I’m really sorry.
Drake, who recently topped the Billboard Hot 100 with SZA for their collaboration ‘Slime You Out’, slipped into the comments section: “We gon do that shit together when you come back lemme open for you,” he wrote.
SZA promised that the Toronto date would be rescheduled, although there is no information yet. She has been on the road for much of the year, kicking off her SOS tour in North America in February.
Throughout June she toured Europe before returning to the States in September to resume the trek. She’s scheduled to continue touring for the rest of the month, with two shows in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles before wrapping up the tour in Phoenix on 29 October.
