Some twenty emerging film projects have been selected to participate in the inaugural edition of the Qcinema Project Market (18-19 November), which this year represents an extension of the QCinema Film Festival in Quezon City, Philippines.
The selected titles include development projects from some of East Asia’s better known independent and art house directors and projects. Among them is “Filipinana”, which won three awards at the Asian Project Market in Busan on Tuesday. Another is “Fox King” by established Malaysian filmmaker Woo Ming Jing, which will also travel to the Tokyo Gap Financing Market. Also in the running is established Singaporean filmmaker Boo Junfeng and his producing partner Raymond Phathanavirangoon with “Medium”.
The 20 selected projects will compete for over $400,000 in grants and prizes, including a $35,000 co-production grant for Southeast Asian projects and $50,000 for Philippine projects.
“From an impressive submission of sixty-five projects from across the region, these selected projects really stood out as the most promising and authentic, and we are really looking forward to bringing them to Quezon City for their one-on-one meetings with a curated list of decision-makers who can help bring their project to life through financing, co-production, sales representation and film festivals,” said Liza Diño, executive director of the Quezon City Film Development Commission (QCFDC) and project manager of QPM.
