Vietnam-based sales agent Skyline Media has secured multi-territory deals for two of its current titles, The Soul Reaper and Vietnamese Horror Story.
The deals follow Skyline’s recent trip to Busan’s ACFM and come ahead of its participation as an exhibitor at a number of other sales events in the final quarter – Tokyo’s TIFFCOM, Santa Monica’s American Film Market and Taipei’s Taiwan Creative Content Fest.
The Soul Reaper, a folk horror film currently in the final stages of post-production, was licensed to GaragePlay for Taiwan and to Westec Media Limited (WML) for Laos, Cambodia and nine other Southeast Asian territories.
The film, adapted from Thao Trang’s best-selling horror novel “Lunar New Year in Hell Village” (also known as “Tet O Lang Dia Nguc”), is scheduled for release in Vietnam on December 8.
GaragePlay is one of Taiwan’s leading distributors and recently handled the releases of “Suzume”, “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Someday or One Day”.
WML is the largest content distributor in Cambodia, having released over 1,000 titles into theatres since its inception. Its current release capacity is 150 titles per year in the country.
Skyline has also signed a deal with Russia’s World Pictures for the distribution rights in the CIS region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) to Vietnam’s biggest horror hit of 2022, “Vietnamese Horror Story”. It was previously licensed for distribution in North America, Australia, Japan and Southeast Asia.
As with “The Soul Reaper”, the film comes from well-known director-producer duo Tran Huu Tan and Hoang Quan.
Skyline says the latest deals are a “distribution milestone” for Vietnamese feature films and underline the company’s status as Vietnam’s “most dynamic sales agent for Vietnamese content”. It has secured rights deals on behalf of more than 100 Vietnamese film and TV titles with licensees in 49 countries and territories.
