Not the emotion, but Pixar’s newest animated character, played by Maya Hawke, as “Inside Out 2” marks the biggest animated trailer launch in Disney history.
The trailer for the animated sequel about personified emotions has been viewed 157 million times in 24 hours, according to Disney. “Inside Out 2” unseated the previous record holder, 2019’s “Frozen 2.” Of those 157 million views, 78 million came from TikTok.
“We’re thrilled that so many people have tuned in to see the new trailer for ‘Inside Out 2,'” said Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer. “When the first film came out, we knew that by telling a story where we could see our emotions – those little voices inside your head – there was so much more to explore than we could possibly fit into one film.”
Docter, who helmed the first ‘Inside Out’ in 2015, went on to praise the sequel’s director Kelsey Mann, saying he and the team “did such a great job with ‘Inside Out 2,’ expanding the world and introducing new emotions that we’re very excited for audiences to discover”.
He added: “We couldn’t be more grateful for the response the trailer has received so far. Thank you to everyone who has checked it out – we can’t wait for everyone to see the film when it’s released next summer”.
“Inside Out 2” picks up with protagonist Riley, who is now a teenager dealing with new, complicated emotions. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return as Joy, Sadness and Anger, while Tony Hale and Liza Lapira have replaced Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust following reported salary disputes. Hawke joins as the frazzled, new emotion of Fear. It was fun while it lasted, Riley.
“Inside Out” premieres exclusively in cinemas on 14 June 2024.
