“Young Sheldon” will end its run on CBS with the upcoming Season 7.
The “Big Bang Theory” prequel series will return on 15 February, with the one-hour series finale airing on 16 May. The season will be shorter than its predecessors, due to the truncated 2023-2024 scripted broadcast season caused by the writers and actors strike that shut down Hollywood production for nearly six months.
“As a prequel to one of the greatest comedies, ‘Young Sheldon’ proved that lightning can strike twice,” said Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment. “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like family from the first moment we saw them on screen, and brought characters to life with unique, heartfelt stories that captivated audiences from the start. We sincerely thank executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing team for six wonderful seasons. We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving them a fitting send-off with the best episodes yet for their fans.
“Young Sheldon” originally premiered in 2017, while “The Big Bang Theory” will end its run in 2020 after launching in 2007. According to CBS, “Young Sheldon” drew an estimated 11 million viewers per episode in live+35 ratings and multiplatform viewing.
“Telling the story of Sheldon Cooper’s origin and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” said executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro and Chuck Lorre. “We’re grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers over the past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire ‘Young Sheldon’ family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”
Iain Armitage stars as Sheldon, with Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr, Annie Potts as Connie “Meemaw” Tucker, Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper Jr and Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper. Jim Parsons, who played Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, serves as the series’ narrator.
The show was created by Lorre and Molaro. In addition to this duo and Holland, Nick Bakay, Parsons and Todd Spiewak serve as executive producers. Chuck Lorre Productions is producing in association with Warner Bros. Television.
