“Yellowstone is officially gearing up to return to production.
The Paramount Network megahit will resume production on the final episodes of its fifth and final season in late spring 2024.
This is the latest series to announce a return to production, with many scrambling to get back to work now that the twin writers and actors strikes that shut down Hollywood for months have been resolved. Many shows, particularly on the broadcast side, will be filming new seasons in the coming weeks in a bid to salvage the networks’ spring schedules.
It has already been announced that the final episodes of “Yellowstone” will debut in November 2024, and Paramount has greenlit two new shows – the prequel “1944” and a contemporary series currently titled “2024”. Reruns of Yellowstone are also currently airing on CBS.
In May, it was announced that Taylor Sheridan’s hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” would end after its fifth season. Paramount had previously announced that the fifth season would be split into two parts. The first eight episodes will air from November 2022 to January 2023.
In December, it was reported that “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner would be leaving the series in Season 5, reportedly due to his desire to focus on the epic two-part western “Horizon”, which would have seriously affected his availability to film “Yellowstone”. The first part of the film is scheduled for release in June 2024, with the second part following in August.
“1944” is the latest in a series of “Yellowstone” prequels that Sheridan has created for Paramount as part of his extensive overall deal. He previously launched both “1883” and “1923” on Paramount+, with each series exploring the lives of the Duttons in the titular year.
No plot details are available for “2024”, other than that it is expected to air after the conclusion of “Yellowstone”. According to an individual with knowledge of the series, it will feature new cast members and locations, as well as some crossover characters.
With the announcement that the flagship show will end with Season 5, Paramount has already announced the new contemporary series set in the world of “Yellowstone”, which was originally scheduled to begin airing in December of this year. It was also previously reported that Matthew McConaughey was in talks to star in the series.
