Warner Bros. Discovery has inked a multi-year US output deal with A24 that will see the entertainment company’s slate of films exclusively available on HBO, Max and Cinemax following their theatrical release.
A24’s output deal with Warner Bros. Discovery follows the expiration earlier this year of A24’s deal with Paramount Global’s Showtime, which was originally set to run through 2019.
Films to be made available under the new deal include Sofia Coppola’s biopic Priscilla, starring Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley; Sean Durkin’s upcoming The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White as the real-life Von Erich brothers who made history in the world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s; and Kristoffer Borgli’s comedy Dream Scenario, starring Nicolas Cage.
Other films included in the Pay-1 output deal include Dicks: The Musical” from comedian Larry Charles; “The Zone of Interest”; the 2023 re-release of “Stop Making Sense”, Jonathan Demme’s famous Talking Heads concert film; “Love Lies Bleeding” from director Rose Glass; and “Civil War”, the upcoming action film written and directed by Alex Garland.
In addition, the two companies have expanded their licensing agreement for A24’s library of films on HBO and Max, which will include more than 100 titles over the term of the agreement. The expanded slate of A24 films coming to HBO and Max includes the Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, “Uncut Gems”, “The Whale” and “Past Lives”.
“Continuing our relationship with A24 to bring subscribers award-winning films alongside current fan favourites adds incredible value to the HBO and Max value proposition,” said Royce Battleman, EVP of Content Acquisitions for Warner Bros. Discovery. “The diversity of stories coming out of the A24 pipeline is what makes this partnership so powerful for our audiences.”
