Peacock has renewed Twisted Metal for a second season.
“I have to give a Sweet Tooth-sized thank you to our incredible fans – I read every comment and was so overwhelmed by everyone’s love, support and rabid enthusiasm for a paper bag. We are beyond grateful to be able to continue the story of John Doe, Quiet and Sweet Tooth as they face off against familiar faces and new fierce foes in the long-awaited Twisted Metal tournament. The mixtape is done and I’m thrilled to be back on the road with our stellar cast and crew,” said showrunner, writer and executive producer Michael Jonathan Smith in a statement.
Season 1 of the half-hour live-action TV series follows a motor-mouthed outsider who’s offered a chance at a new life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Aided by an axe-wielding car thief, he must contend with unsavory characters driving destructive vehicles and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown driving an all-too-familiar ice cream truck. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Deadpool”, “Zombieland”) created the original take on the classic PlayStation game series.
Anthony Mackie and Will Arnett both executive produce and star in the series alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa (AEW), Thomas Haden Church (Sideways, Divorce, Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Peacock can boast that the series, which premiered on 27 July, was its highest-rated original in its first week. It currently ranks among Peacock’s top three originals of all time as new viewers continue to discover the series.
In addition to Smith, Mackie and Arnett, Reese and Wernick executive produce alongside Marc Forman, Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions and PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst. The series is from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television.
