Warner Bros.’ “Wonka” starring Timothee Chalamet has debuted at the top of the UK and Ireland box office with £8.9 million ($11.2 million), according to figures from Comscore.
In its third weekend, Disney’s “Wish” climbed to second place with £1.9 million for a total of £5.8 million. In its fourth weekend, Lionsgate U.K.’s “The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes” took £961,055 for a total of £14.7 million.
Not far behind was Ridley Scott’s epic “Napoleon”, distributed by Sony, which took £951,101 in its third weekend in fourth place for a total of £11.3 million.
Bollywood blockbuster Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, took £401,015 in its second weekend in sixth place for a total of £1.6 million.
The only other debut in the top 10 was Vertigo Releasing’s “The Peasants” which took £74,441 in 10th place.
A highly anticipated release this coming weekend is “The Three Musketeers: Milady”, the second instalment of the saga based on Alexandre Dumas’ timeless tales of friendship, loyalty and royal intrigue, starring François Civil, Vincent Cassel, Pio Marmaï, Romain Duris and Eva Green. Entertainment Film Distributors is releasing the film in over 300 locations worldwide.
Equally eagerly anticipated is Anime Ltd’s “Godzilla Minus One”, the latest take on the evergreen giant monster. On the evergreen theme, Meg Ryan and David Duchovny star in Universal’s romantic comedy What Happens Later, Ryan’s second directorial effort after 2015’s Ithaca.
Angel Studios will release the sci-fi film “The Shift,” while Peccadillo Pictures will release “The Lost Boys,” which premiered at the Berlinale. 606 Distribution will release Venice winner “Monica”, while Central City Media will release Hong Kong music drama “Band Four”, starring Cantopop star Kay Tse.
