The upcoming 74th Berlin Film Festival is set to premiere several high-profile titles, including Johan Renck’s Netflix sci-fi drama “Spaceman,” featuring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, and Paul Dano, along with German filmmaker Julia von Heinz’s “Treasure,” formerly known as “Iron Box,” starring Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry.
The Berlinale, which will reveal its competition lineup on January 22, announced the initial lineup of its Berlinale Special titles. Among the roster is German director Tilman Singer’s horror movie “Cuckoo,” featuring Euphoria star Hunter Shafer, John Malkovich, and Gemma Chan from Neon’s “Crazy Rich Asians.”
The lineup further includes David and Nathan Zellner’s “Sasquatch Sunset,” starring Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg, set to have its world premiere at Sundance, and Atom Egoyan’s “Seven Veils,” featuring Amanda Seyfried, which previously premiered in Toronto without the presence of its cast.
Carlo Chatrian, the festival’s artistic director, expressed excitement, stating, “It is with special pleasure and pride that we welcome back directors who have presented their work at the festival in the past.” He highlighted the diverse offerings, including projects involving American stars, irreverent comedy, and a dark universe.
The finalized Berlinale Special selection will comprise 20 titles and will be announced in mid-January.
Chatrian acknowledged the talent involved, expressing enthusiasm for Amanda Seyfried, Lena Dunham, Stephen Fry, Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Hunter Schafer, Dan Stevens, Carey Mulligan, and the debut participation of Adam Sandler.
