“Sound of Freedom,” which premiered in theaters last July, is now accessible for streaming on Prime Video, marking its transition from theatrical release to digital availability in October and November.
Angel Studios, supported by Angel investors, initiated an exclusive viewing window for the film on October 13 through the Angel Studios app, followed by a digital purchase option on November 3. Subsequently, DVDs and Blu-rays became purchasable from November 14 via shop.angel.com, major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, while digital rental (TVOD) became an option starting December 15.
Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer at Angel Studios, expressed gratitude to the Angel Guild for their pivotal role in the success of “Sound of Freedom” theatrically. Geesey highlighted the Guild’s influence in greenlighting projects and presenting them to audiences. “We are honored to give them exclusive early access to this film prior to its wider release through the world’s leading digital platforms and retailers,” stated Geesey.
The religious thriller, helmed by Alejandro Monteverde, revolves around the true story of Tim Ballard (portrayed by “The Passion of the Christ” actor Jim Caviezel), a former government agent on a mission to rescue children from sex traffickers in Colombia. Co-starring Mira Sorvino and Bill Camp, the film has sparked debates due to claims of embellishing the reality of child exploitation and connections to QAnon conspiracy theories. Some critiques, such as Rolling Stone, referred to it as a “QAnon-tinged thriller.”
Despite controversy, audiences responded positively, granting the film an “A+” CinemaScore and a 100% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have offered mixed opinions, yielding a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman commended “Sound of Freedom” as a “compelling movie” shedding light on a pressing issue mostly unexplored by Hollywood.
Now available for streaming on Prime Video, “Sound of Freedom” continues to fuel discussions on its portrayal of a challenging subject while drawing attention for its audience reception and critical appraisal.
