Renowned Korean actor Choi Min-sik, celebrated for his roles in “Oldboy” and the record-breaking film “Roaring Currents,” takes center stage in the upcoming mystery-thriller “Exhuma.” The film, slated for its Korean theater debut in February, has revealed its initial images and an intriguing trailer, setting the stage for anticipation.
In this suspenseful narrative, Choi portrays an exorcist whose actions unexpectedly unleash supernatural forces.
As detailed by Showbox, the plot revolves around a wealthy Los Angeles family besieged by a series of unexplained paranormal incidents concerning their newborn. Seeking aid, they turn to a duo of young shamans, played by Kim Go-eun and Lee Do-hyun. Sensing a dark ancestral presence, known as the ‘Grave’s Calling,’ the shamans enlist the help of Choi, a prominent geomancer, and a mortician, portrayed by Yoo Hai-jin. The four embark on a quest to exhume the ancestor’s grave, only to unearth a malevolent force hidden beneath, leading to unforeseen consequences.
Produced by Showbox and Pinetown Production in collaboration with MCMC, “Exhuma” is helmed by director Jang Jae-hyun, recognized for his works on “Svaha: The Sixth Finger” and “The Priests.”
Choi Min-sik, a stalwart in the industry renowned for iconic roles in “Shiri,” “I Saw the Devil,” and Luc Besson’s “Lucy,” also ventured into significant television territory last year, taking on a pivotal role in the Disney+ crime series “Big Bet” after over two decades.
The ensemble cast of “Exhuma” comprises other noteworthy names. Kim Go-eun, known for her roles in the Netflix series “Little Women,” “Guardian,” and “Eungyo,” joins alongside Yoo Hai-jin, recognized for performances in “The Night Owl,” “Confidential Assignment 2: International,” and “Space Sweepers.” Lee Do-hyun, with credits in “The Good Bad Mother,” the popular series “The Glory,” and “Sweet Home,” completes the talented lineup.
