Prepare for an immersive journey into the expansive world of “Ready Player One,” the celebrated narrative set in a future where individuals seek solace from reality within a virtual-reality simulation. Futureverse, a company specializing in AI and metaverse technology, has revealed plans to bring this virtual realm to life in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The announcement includes the establishment of Readyverse Studios, a creative endeavor co-founded by Ernest Cline, the visionary behind “Ready Player One,” and Dan Farah, producer of the 2018 Warner Bros. film adaptation of the novel.
In a groundbreaking deal, Readyverse Studios, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, secured exclusive rights to transform the Ready Player One franchise into the metaverse within web3. Additionally, Readyverse Studios holds exclusive web3 rights to all future intellectual property crafted by Cline.
Details about the forthcoming Ready Player One metaverse experience are currently limited, with the company targeting a launch sometime in 2024. Readyverse Studios aims to actualize the open metaverse concept depicted in Cline’s novel and the blockbuster film adaptation, presenting a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable experience for the general consumer base.
Futureverse, co-founded by Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald, emphasized that the Readyverse would embrace fundamental principles of the open metaverse, emphasizing provable digital ownership, community-owned infrastructure, decentralization, security, and interoperability.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Cline remarked, “The future has arrived even more quickly than I imagined.” He highlighted the opportunity to leverage Futureverse’s groundbreaking technology to shape an extraordinary metaverse experience aligned with the novel’s vision.
Farah echoed this sentiment, stating, “Readyverse Studios will introduce captivating metaverse opportunities for Hollywood studios, talent, and brands, fostering new revenue streams and creative platforms for brand expansion. Simultaneously, consumers will enjoy the potential of the open metaverse.”
The cinematic adaptation of “Ready Player One,” directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Tye Sheridan as protagonist Wade Watts, garnered a global box office revenue of $583 million.
Josh Hackbarth, senior VP of franchise development at Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed excitement about the partnership, citing “Ready Player One” as a cultural phenomenon that has inspired technological innovators. He affirmed their eagerness to collaborate with Readyverse Studios to introduce the unique characters and immersive environments of the narrative to the web3 metaverse.
