During the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Kieran Culkin claimed victory in the category of best actor in a TV drama, expressing his disbelief in finding himself on stage. In a lighthearted moment, he quipped to his fellow nominee Pedro Pascal, “Suck it, Pedro.”
Reflecting on his journey, Culkin shared, “I was nominated for a Golden Globe like 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I still remember thinking, I’m never going to be back in this room again.” He credited the success of the show “Succession” for providing him with multiple opportunities to be part of such prestigious events. He dedicated his win to the collective effort of the team behind the series and expressed gratitude to three remarkable women in his life: his manager, his wife Jazz for her unwavering support, and his mother.
Culkin triumphed over an impressive lineup of nominees, including Brian Cox (“Succession”), Dominic West (“The Crown”), Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”), and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”). His portrayal of Roman Roy in HBO’s “Succession” depicted the unraveling of a clever and quick-witted member of the Roy family who faced the challenges of running the family business after the loss of his father.
This victory marks Culkin’s inaugural win at the Golden Globes after receiving five nominations throughout his career. His first nomination dates back to 2003 for his performance in “Igby Goes Down.” However, his recent nominations from 2019 to 2024 were a result of his role in the HBO series. Additionally, “Succession” received recognition as a nominee for the best television drama category.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards unfolded at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday and were hosted by Jo Koy.
