Jennifer Lawrence, although falling short of claiming the Golden Globe for the female actor in a motion picture comedy or musical, became a highlight of the 2024 ceremony with her memorable moments. Her viral gesture of playfully mouthing “If I don’t win, I’m leaving!” at the camera upon the announcement of her nomination created a buzz. Furthermore, she garnered attention for reuniting with her “Hunger Games” co-star Lenny Kravitz inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The duo notably portrayed Katniss and Cinna, respectively, in “The Hunger Games” (2012) and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (2013), sharing numerous impactful scenes together as Cinna served as Katniss’ stylist.
The reunion of Lawrence and Kravitz served as a nostalgic treat for “Hunger Games” enthusiasts, especially after the success of the movie prequel, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” which became a box office hit last fall. Lawrence, during her “No Hard Feelings” press tour in June, expressed openness to revisiting her role as Katniss if the right opportunity were to arise. She affirmed her sentiments at the time, stating, “If Katniss ever could come back into my life, 100 percent.”
However, despite Lawrence’s enthusiasm, veteran franchise producer Nina Jacobson and director Francis Lawrence remain cautious about the prospect. They believe that Katniss’ storyline has concluded, aligning with author Suzanne Collins’ viewpoint. The film team would only reconsider involving Jennifer Lawrence if Collins decides to revisit Katniss in any future written works.
Jacobson remarked to Yahoo Entertainment before the release of “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” “Honestly, as much as I love Katniss, I think her story is complete. And I think that Suzanne feels that her story is complete. But if that changes, and Suzanne has something she wants to say, and it involves Katniss, then I would be thrilled.”
“The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” set 60 years before the initial “Hunger Games” book and film, offered no opportunity for Jennifer Lawrence to reprise her role. The prequel starred Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, who shared her experience of meeting Lawrence at Paris Fashion Week for the Dior show. Zegler recounted the encounter on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show, expressing admiration for Lawrence’s kindness and a humorous incident during their photo session.
The clip shown on the talk show displayed Zegler and Lawrence embracing for photos, with Zegler later revealing the humor behind the moment. “In that clip, [Jennifer is] actually saying, ‘Let’s do another photo where I’m strangling you and saying you’ll never take my part!’” Zegler disclosed. “And that’s exactly what I wanted from her.”
At the 2024 Golden Globes, Lawrence was nominated for “No Hard Feelings,” losing to Emma Stone. Meanwhile, Kravitz received a nomination in the best original song category for his track from the Netflix drama “Rustin,” but the award went to the Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie.”
