In a recent announcement, ABC confirmed that the critically acclaimed medical drama, “The Good Doctor,” will conclude its run with the upcoming Season 7. Freddie Highmore, who portrays Dr. Shaun Murphy, expressed gratitude for the transformative experience of playing the character, stating, “Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life.”
Debuting on ABC in 2017, “The Good Doctor” has consistently garnered popularity and claimed the top spot in the Monday 10 pm time slot among adults 18-49 last season, according to ABC. The final season is set to premiere on February 20.
Executive producers and showrunners David Shore and Liz Feldman, along with executive producer Erin Gunn, shared their sentiments about bidding farewell to the series. “’The Good Doctor’ has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye,” they said. “We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of.”
Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, acknowledged the impact of the show, stating, “As we prepare to finish this beloved story, words cannot express our gratitude for the incredible cast, crew, and our partners at Sony and ABC Signature.”
The current cast, including Chuku Modu, Richard Schiff, Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Bria Samoné Henderson, and Noah Galvin, has contributed to the show’s success. Highmore, who portrays the highly-skilled surgeon with autism, received praise for his performance.
“The Good Doctor” joins the ranks of other broadcast shows concluding their runs, such as ABC’s “Station 19” and several CBS productions, including “Young Sheldon,” “Blue Bloods,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” and “SWAT.” NBC also bid farewell to “La Brea” after three seasons and recently concluded the final season of the “Magnum P.I.” reboot. Additionally, at The CW, “Superman & Lois” will conclude with its fourth season.
“The Good Doctor” is executive produced and co-showrun by Shore and Friedman, with additional executive producers including Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, Thomas L.
