New Zealand-based sales and distribution company Black Mandala has acquired the international rights to the Spanish-language genre film and 2023 festival sensation, “I’ll Crush Y’All” (also known as “Os Reviento”).
The film revolves around Gabriel, portrayed by Mario Mayo, alias ‘Tarado,’ a former boxer residing in a secluded village with his father and loyal dog. Despite his ability to continue boxing, Gabriel opts for a quiet life to avoid the troubles that led to his imprisonment. The death of his father and the revelation of his shady dealings attract a motley crew of characters with increasingly sinister intentions: a troublesome brother with a new girlfriend, an irate admirer, mobsters with dark agendas, and thugs on the hunt for a stolen bag of money.
“I’ll Crush Y’All” premiered at FantasticFest in September, clinching the audience prize at both FantasticFest and the Sitges genre film festival. Mario Mayo’s performance earned accolades, securing Best Acting prizes at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre and SModCastle festivals.
Directed by Kike Narcera, the film stands as an independent production by JAR Producciones, Bruno Martín, The OtherSide Films, Loniego Films, and Gamera Studios, accomplished on a budget of less than EUR1 million.
The ensemble cast includes Antonio Mayans, Ana Márquez, Miguel Lago Casal, Manuel Huedo, Rut Santamaría, Fernando Gil, Raúl Gimenez, Diego París, Esteban Balbi, Fabia Castro, Diego Moreno, Manuel Galea, Benja de la Rosa, and Kaco Forns. Black Mandala highlights Rut Santamaría’s brief yet impactful appearance, alongside Spanish genre cinema stars Javier Botet and Lone Fleming.
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Daniel Maldonado, aka “Sam,” adds to the immersive experience. Film editing is credited to Ángel Plana (“La Comunidad,” “A Ciegas,” “Azuloscurocasinegro,” “Volver”), and special effects were handled by Reyes Abades Effectos Especiales, a nine-time Goya Awards winner in the effects category.
“I’ll Crush Y’All” has enjoyed an exceptional festival run, with ongoing participation in new events, including the upcoming Fantasporto, as stated by Black Mandala’s Michael Kraetzer. The film’s success on the festival circuit marks it as a noteworthy addition to the international cinematic landscape.
