Renowned director Matthew Vaughn, known for his work on “X-Men: First Class,” has shared his optimistic outlook on the much-anticipated “Deadpool 3,” asserting that the upcoming Marvel blockbuster has the potential to “save the whole” Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although Vaughn is not helming the project—responsibility for “Deadpool 3” falls to director Shawn Levy—he appears well-versed enough in the film’s details to express confidence in its transformative impact.
During an appearance on BroBible’s “Post Credit” podcast, Vaughn, currently promoting his latest directorial venture, “Argylle,” conveyed his high hopes for the sequel. Vaughn’s familiarity with mutant characters on the big screen stems from his directorial role in the 2011 film “X-Men: First Class.”
Commenting on the anticipated clash between Deadpool and Wolverine, Vaughn remarked, “The few snippets that I know about ‘Deadpool vs. Wolverine’—or ‘Wolverine vs. Deadpool,’ I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak—are unbelievable. That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them, and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel Universe.”
Expressing his genuine enthusiasm for the X-Men franchise, Vaughn added, “I’m a genuine fan of the X-Men, all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be.”
Marvel finds itself in a position where a cinematic revival is much needed, following a challenging 2023 with underperforming releases such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” The latter failed to surpass $100 million at the domestic box office, making it the lowest-grossing Marvel film to date.
The anticipation for “Deadpool 3” is further fueled by Hugh Jackman’s highly anticipated return as Wolverine. The film, slated as Marvel’s flagship in 2024, marks the official introduction of Ryan Reynolds’ irreverent Deadpool into the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both previous “Deadpool” films and the entire “X-Men” franchise were previously under the ownership of Fox before Disney’s acquisition in 2019.
Ryan Reynolds recently took to social media to announce the completion of filming for “Deadpool 3.” Originally scheduled for a May 3 release, the film faced a delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike last year.
Reynolds shared on Instagram, “The suit hides the blood. Also sweat… But today, with ‘Deadpool’ wrapping, it’s mostly tears. A giant and forever thanks to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and Hugh Jackman all under the stalwart leadership of Shawn Levy… See ya July 26th.”
“Deadpool 3” is poised to hit theaters on July 26, promising an eagerly awaited chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
