Netflix has confirmed the renewal of the “Money Heist” spinoff series, “Berlin,” for a highly-anticipated second season.
The upcoming season will once again feature Pedro Alonso reprising his role as the titular character, alongside returning cast members Michelle Jenner as Keila, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce.
Set as a prequel to the events depicted in “Money Heist” (also known as “La casa de papel”), “Berlin” follows Alonso’s character and his crew as they embark on another daring heist, aiming for a multi-million-dollar haul. Production for Season 2 is slated to commence in 2025.
According to Netflix, the series garnered immense viewership upon its debut, emerging as the platform’s most-watched series worldwide during its premiere week. It dominated the Top 10 charts in a staggering 91 countries and sustained its presence in the Top 10 on non-English TV charts for seven consecutive weeks. With a cumulative total of 53 million views, “Berlin” now stands as the ninth most-watched non-English language series in Netflix’s extensive library.
“Money Heist: Berlin” is the brainchild of “Money Heist” creator Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, marking the latest expansion of the wildly successful “Money Heist” universe on Netflix. The streaming giant previously introduced a Korean adaptation titled “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” which premiered in two installments in June and December 2022.
Originally airing on Spanish television network Antena 3, “Money Heist” captured global attention following Netflix’s acquisition of its worldwide streaming rights in 2017. The series swiftly ascended to become one of Netflix’s most-watched non-English language shows, solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon.
