Canadian actor Chris Gauthier, best known for his roles in popular television series such as “Once Upon a Time,” “Smallville,” and “Eureka,” passed away on February 23 at the age of 48 after a brief unspecified illness, as confirmed by his management.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook by TriStar Appearances’ Chad Colvin, the news of Gauthier’s passing was acknowledged with deep sorrow. Colvin described Gauthier as the epitome of a character actor, whose face and voice were familiar to many, even if his name might not have been. He emphasized Gauthier’s remarkable talent and versatility, noting his memorable performances in various roles, including the Toyman in “Smallville” and Smee in “Once Upon a Time,” where he stood out alongside iconic characters like Clark Kent and Hook.
Gauthier’s extensive television credits also encompassed appearances in “Harper’s Island,” “Sanctuary,” “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Charmed,” and “Joe Pickett.” Additionally, he made notable contributions to the film industry, with roles in movies such as “40 Days and 40 Nights,” “Agent Cody Banks,” and “Freddy vs. Jason.”
Corrine Wright, a friend of Gauthier, recalled on Facebook how he had the opportunity to work alongside esteemed actors like Anthony Hopkins and Robin Williams, earning admiration for his genuine character from his peers in the industry.
